This page analyzes the relationship among various existing IT certifications along with links to study materials associated to each specific area of knowledge.

IT certifications are organized into several dimensions:

  • Job skill (User, Networking Design, Administration, Programming, etc.)
  • Level of expertise (entry-level to professional to instructor level)
  • Extent of vendor-specific or vendor-neutral content.

Do this! Provide code "2NDFRE" when you register for your initial exam and receive a second shot in the event that you fail before August 31, 2005.

          IX. Software Engineering Process 2-4%
          X. Software Engineering Tools and Methods 2-4%
          XI. Software Quality 6-8%

The depth and breath of this exam is reflective of the Masters Degree in Software Engineering degree at Cal State Sacramento, taught by Dr. Richard H. Thayer, who also offers training geared to the exam.

The 3.5 hour, 180 multiple-choice-question automated test is administered by Prometric for $450 (after a $150 IEEE member discount). Unlike other certifications, the CSDP exam is offered only during certain designated weeks of the year after one pre-registers several months before the exam. For example, those wishing to take the exam between October 5-26 must fax their application to IEEE by August 17.
